Good luck with that - Rising Hegemon
by Attaturk at 17 May 2012 08:30
When reality meets better policy and better politics... Barack Obama is to press German chancellor Angela Merkel to support a growth package to help bail out Europe at the G8 summit this weekend amid fears in the White House that the eurozone crisis could damage the president's re-election chances..I mean sure, by this point a growth package is virtually humanitarian relief, but there is one gigantic flaw in such a appeal -- Germany didn't become the major supporter and enforcer of "austerity" for nothing : Germany's economy grew by a stronger-than-expected 0.5% in the first three months of the year despite Europe's debt crisis... Germany remains a standout performer despite Europe's troubles with too much debt in several countries.
The new growth industry: Abaddon (destruction) - Mercury Rising 鳯女
by Charles II at 17 May 2012 03:49
Via Barry Rithholtz , an article from Matt Taibbi , Rolling Stone: It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes God smiles on us..Last week, he smiled on investigative reporters everywhere, when the lawyers for Goldman, Sachs slipped on one whopper of a legal banana peel, inadvertently delivering some of the bank’s darker secrets into the hands of the public.

Keep Your Powder Dry, Boys - First Draft
by Athenae at 17 May 2012 02:02
Southern Beale referenced this earlier, but it's become clear in recent days that the DNC has decided to cut Wisconsin loose, probably because hey, it's just a state full of union workers and teachers and cops and farmers and steelworkers...
THE VILLAGERS ARE IN DENIAL - RADAMISTO
by Steve J. at 17 May 2012 00:46
(h/t Jay Ackroyd at Eschaton ) They can't seem to admit that a large proportion of American conservatives are batshit crazy ..The new book by Norman Ornstein and Thomas Mann tells an obvious truth : We have been studying Washington politics and Congress for more than 40 years, and never have we seen them this dysfunctional.

ALEC is not the only “corporate bill mill” - Mercury Rising 鳯女
by Charles II at 16 May 2012 22:55
Sara Blaskey and Steve Horn , Truthout: ALEC, though, is not the only “corporate bill mill” playing this game..“Taxpayer-subsidized stealth lobbyists” have upped the ante and skillfully advanced their agendas through bipartisan “trade associations” for state government officials – in particular, the Council of State Governments (CSG) whose multimillion-dollar budget is mostly funded by taxpayers.

Stop. Ground. Breathe. Return to Center. - hecatedemeter
by Hecate Demeter at 16 May 2012 22:29
Would now be a good time for you to stop, ground, take a deep breath, and return to your center?.Of course, the answer is, “Yes.” The answer is almost always, “Yes.” Modern life can be, at the same time, both frentic and routine.
Democrats: Never Missing A Chance To Lose - A Spork in the Drawer

Throwing away Wisconsin and creating a new rightwing Superstar because shut up that's why..I'd say the Dems are being bribed given campaign donations to boot the election but for the fact they're neither that smart nor that competent.
